Analysing thriller clips

Arlington Road

In my media class today we have been analyzing thriller clips and i have chosen to write a short account on Arlington Road. Arlington Road is based on many abstract shots pieced together that link to the setting that i assume is Arlington Road . I assume this because there are pictures of suburban houses, dogs and little girls in white dresses however there is a sinister feeling created by the non diegetic music used in the opening sequence. You can hear airey voices, disjointed musical sounds which makes the audience think there is something not right with Arlington Road . The editing used also creates this idea because there is fast paced montage, the fences had a red layer which created an image of blood and the images of x rays were intriguing, the effects of the layered colours on the pictures created the connection between the pictures . The titles were slow moving through out the opening sequence and they were small and bold text. This opening sequence is different from other thriller opening sequences because there were no actors and no one speaking however it still created a sense of suspense and mystery because we have no idea what is going to happen apart from what we can assume from the disjointed pictures.

I could not find the opening sequence to the movie but this is the trailor which also causes suspense.
