Q5 WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

In today’s lesson we had to discuss who would be the target audience for your media product, in this case I thought my target audience would be males between the ages 16-30. The images below show an example of a male from my target audience. Caglayan, 17, semi-pro footballer, loves going to the cinema with friends, favourite film is fast and furious and shops in Selfridges. He also loves his car the Audi A3, which was brought by his dad on his birthday.

Q7 LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNED IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

In todays lesson, we were set a tast to compare the difference between the preliminary clip and final clip.


The difference between the two videos is that in one of them the person fits into the frame and in the other it dont, the videos above show how we have improved this.

EVALUATION question 7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product ?



Our skills have progressed a lot because as you can see in the preliminary task the camera was not stable, it was quite wobbly, whereas in our final product the camera wasn't wobbly because it was fitted right on the tripod and we have had more experience using the camera so this shows how we have progressed.



In our preliminary match cut clip, the titles disappeared to quickly, the audience may have missed some titles. We also placed some of our titles in odd places that did not fit, whereas in our final film we put in more time and effort to fit the titles in the best places. We made sure that they were much longer so everyone had time to read the name and watch it fade. We also added better effects to all of our titles, e.g. fades and morph and this is recognised in our final thriller.



There is not enough of a variety of shots in our preliminary, it mostly consists of shot reverse shot. Whereas in our final product there are many different types of shots we used such as POV, close ups, long shots . In our prelim we did not know the importance of a close up so we made sure we included one in our final thriller.

My target audience for my final media product are girls and boys between ages of 16 -28. The images above refer to an example of what a boy from my target audience would carry in their bag.This rucksack belongs to a 17 year old boy called Michael, he is a student currently studying English who loves to read books by his favourite author Stephen King. He works part time at his local Vue cinema so he is entitled to discounts and vouchers. He also loves being up to date with everything such as fashion and technology such as his blackberry phone and ipod. He is always shopping at JD and Footlockers which means most of the time he cannot save up any money because he is a student and he always wants to be up to date with everything.

5) Who would be the audience for your media product?


Teenage girls in college/university who works in retail such as Topshop, River Island or New Look. Teenagers who love to watch thrillers, especially psychological thrillers, loves to read magazines suchas Now and Reveal. Teenage girls who love to wear make-up read books suchas Twilight, but also go out and have fun.

Teenage boys in college/university who work in shops such as JD, Footlockeer or Sports World. Teenage boys who also love to watch thriller, or watch them with their girlfriends. Teenagers who love to play sports, e.g. Football. Also boys who love to pick up a book and read, but also keep up with the latest styles, e.g the latest phones, or shoes.

EVALUATION, Question 2) How does your media product represent particular social groups ?




My group were inspired by two movies, the butterfly effect and marathon man however our initial idea came from the butterfly effect. As u you can see in the pictures above both of the characters seem very focused on what they are reading however the differences are that they obviously reading about different things and the locations are different but they are both experiencing flashbacks of past events. The diary is very symbolic as it is used in both movies so the characters can write in because they both suffer from mental issues.



Q3/4 WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY? HOW WILL YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?



In today’s lesson we were set a task to discuss if our thriller film would fit into the real world of general cinematic release. I thought working title will be the production company to distribute our thriller because it is based in London. It also distributed Shaun of the dead, which I thought is similar to our thriller. Working Title is an Independent British film company who distributed by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe in 1983. It produces feature films and several television productions. Eric Fellner and Bevan are now the co-owners of the company. My thriller will be published at the cinema the screen on the green because it is and independent cinema which provides independent movies. I got the DAY 56 sign from photofunia.com. Its going to be advertised on billboards and bus stops, which will attract the audience.






My film will be advertised like "Shaun of the Dead" through the internet on websites such as "Facebook" and "Youtube", as these websites appeal to our target audience.

The production company i have chosen to distribute my media product is Working Title.Working Title Films is a British film production company, based in London, UK. The company was founded by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe in 1983. It produces feature films and several television productions. Eric Fellner and Bevan are now the co-owners of the company. I have chosen Working Titles because they produce independent films that are made on low budgets which is just like my media product, it is an independent film bases on a low budget. My media product will be shown at cinemas such as ' the screen on the green' and 'the Rio' because they are independent cinemas that show independent movies; most of working title's movies are shown at these cinemas.

I used http://www.photofunia.com/ to create an example of how my media product will be marketed. It will attract audiences by the advertisements shown across billboards, bus stops and the independent cinemas.






These are examples of different types of media that would promote my movie e.g the movie could be sold synergously with other products such a box set including other thriller movies, it could be promoted on social networking websites and on magazines.

3&4) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?


I have chosen to exhibite my film in cinemas such as "The Screen On The Green" because it is a low budget independant film. Working Titles will produce my film as they mainly exhibit their films in cinemas like "Screen On The Green" and "The Rio cinema" For example "Shaun of the Dead was produced by Working Tilte and was a low budget film which targeted a technically savvy audience who loved comedy/action/horror and romance. My film will be advertised similar to "Shaun of the Dead". Through the internet on websites such as "Facebook" and "Youtube", as they most appeal to our target audience.

To promote my film, I would advertise it on different Medias such as bus Stops, billboards and magazines.

2) How does your Media product represent particular social groups?

My group got most of our inspirations from the film "The Butterfly Effect" and "Marathon Man". This is a still from the film "The Butterfly Effect" and how we tried to interpret it. The similarities are the diary and how the main character writes everything down as he has amnesia. We got inspired and also used a diary as his memory because he also has amnesia. We included the title "Day 56" on the top to represent what day it is as he takes notes everyday. The differences are that we do not show the characters face as we did not want to take any of the attention away from what he was writing. We wanted the audience to see how calm he wrote, which contradicted his many emotions before hand.

Q1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?













In today’s lesson we were set a task to comparison 9 shots from our movie and 9 shots from another movie which was on the website http://www.artofthetitle.com/. The film I chose from this website was “se7en” as the titles were similar to our Psychological Thriller. However we had some conventions like music and titles that would reveal to our genre, the music went really well with the clip, especially in the scene when the actor was looking at his sister’s picture.
